II The Application of Election: as it applies to salvation

1a The process of election

1b It is based on foreknowledge (1 Pet 1:1-2)

1c Foreknowledge speaks of knowing something beforehand

2c His decision to elect us is based on information before the fact (Titus 1:1)

3c This information was not general but specific as it related to all believers (Rom. 8:29)

2b It is based on predestination (Rom. 8:29-30)

1c Predestination means to fore ordain

2c Thus his decision to elect us was made before the fact

1d To be conformed in the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29)

2d To be called to the gospel (Rom. 8:30)

3d To be adopted as sons in Christ Jesus (Eph. 1:5)

3c This predestination is based in several factors

1d His foreknowledge (Acts 2:23; Rom 8:29-30)

2d His good pleasure of His will (Eph. 1:5)

3d His purpose based on His counsel of His will (Eph. 1:11)

2a The exploration of election

1b Election does not preclude free will

1c Election is be tied in with the “faith of the elect” and the “knowledge of the truth” (Titus 1:1)

2c The call goes out to many but only a few are the chosen ones (Matt. 20:16; 22:12-14)

3c Believe (148 times in NT), trust (18 times in NT), Faith (243 times in the NT)

4c Choices are made in at least part based on the individual (Rom. 9:9-18; James 2:5)

2b Election does not give us an excuse to find fault with God (Matt. 20:16; 22:12-24; Rom. 9:9-24)

1c He is the Creator and has the right to do whatever He chooses

2c Remember that His choices are always based on His justice and righteousness

3b Election is proven by our works (2 Pet. 1:10)

4b Election becomes personal only after a person has genuinely accepted Christ
